Connacht senior women’s rugby team made a winning start to the Vodafone Interprovincial Series on Saturday with a gutsy 18-17 victory over Leinster at the Sportsground in Galway.
New team captain – and Sligo native – Nicole Fowley led her side to victory in impressive fashion, as she also collected the Player of the Match award.
An injury-time try by Meabh Deely was the key score in Connacht’s one-point win.
The Connacht team also included Riverstown’s Sonia McDermott, Ballintogher’s Grainne O’Loughlin and Ardara’s Laois McGonagle.
