Public asked to protect sand dunes

The public are being asked to protect sand dunes.

Marram grass’ distinctive roots binds sand together, creating sandy hills and ridges seen on beaches known as ‘sand dunes.’

Despite marram grass being resilient against storms and forces, it is fragile to walk on.

It only takes 60-70 steps on marram grass to wear it down to the point where it won’t grow back.

Without the grass, the wind blows the habitats away.

To protect marram grass and keep the dunes strong, the public are asked to walk on the beach.
