Farmers in Donegal can expect to pay the highest prices in Ireland this season for a 4×4 straw bale.
Researchers from the Farming Independent were quoted between €17-€25 for the bales, varying by quality and the location in the country.
The cheapest straw was to be found in Wexford where demand is lowest compared to supply, while Donegal proved most expensive.
The cost of delivery varied greatly, with one seller quoting a charge of over €10 per bale.
