North west counties record decrease in milk revenues

Dairy farmers in counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have each seen a decrease in milk revenues compared to the same period last year.

2023 has seen very severe cuts to milk prices and many farmers feel it comes as no surprise to see their spending power deteriorate.

The Irish Creamery and Milk Suppliers Association has carried out a detailed analysis of each of the 26 counties to establish the reduction in revenues earned by dairy farmers over the last two years.

Results show the dramatic drops in milk values with almost €2 billion less expected to be paid to dairy farmers in 2023 versus 2022.

In figures published by the ICMSA, farmers in Donegal saw revenues of €46 million, a 36% decrease in 2022 figures.

County Sligo saw revenues of €17 million, which is also a 36% decrease.

Leitrim, meanwhile, saw the largest decrease at 38% with a figure of €241 million.
