People are being urged to be on high alert over reports of cold callers and suspected bogus traders in Sligo.
Gardai in Sligo have confirmed that they have received a number of reports as it relates to the issue in recent days.
It’s understood that in one incident locally, a homeowner was pressured to hand over a substantial amount of money for substandard work carried out outside their home.
Communities are being urged to be vigilant and report any matters which they feel are suspicious to Gardai.
Precautions to take:
If you are answering the door to ‘cold callers’, apply the chain or door limiter before opening the door.
Ask for a brochure or documentation so you can carry out checks and verify their credibility. This should include a contact number and a V.A.T registered number.
Do not leave strangers unattended at your doorstep.
Be vigilant in and around your area and report any suspicious vehicles to Gardai.
