A motorist in Ballyshannon was one of 127 vehicles detected breaking the speed limit in the first 5 hours of a clampdown on Monday morning.
The motorist was driving at 77 Km/h in a 60 Km/h zone on the R267 in Portnason, Ballyshannon.
Over 37,900 vehicles have been checked as part of National Slow Down Day, which runs until 7 o’clock on Tuesday morning.
The clampdown comes as the use of speed detection cameras on Irish roads is set to increase by 20%.
An agreement between Justice Minister Helen McEntee and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris sees an additional €1.2 million towards GoSafe cameras.
It will mean an extra 1,500 hours per month of speed monitoring until the end of this year.
