A Leitrim man has died in hospital in Mayo as a result of injuries he sustained in an assault in Westport in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Peter McDermott, aged in his sixties, was taken from the scene and treated for injuries at Mayo University Hospital.
He has since passed away at Mayo University Hospital.
The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will now take place in due course.
Gardaí in Westport are continuing to appeal for witnesses in relation to the incident that occurred at High Street, Westport on Saturday morning.
Earlier on Sunday aftenoon, a man is twenties who was arrested as part of the investigation was released from custody.
A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public of Prosecutions.
Investigations are ongoing.
