Leitrim has been given the go-ahead to enter a combined schools team in next season’s Connacht Colleges senior ‘A’ football championship.
The Leitrim Observer reports that Connacht GAA has approved a Leitrim Schools team to enter the ‘A’ competition for a two-year trial period.
The team will be made up of players from St Claire’s Comprehensive School in Manorhamilton, Lough Allen College in Drumkeerin, the vocational schools in Drumshanbo and Carrigallen, Mohill Community College – and the Community Schools in Ballinamore and Carrick-on-Shannon.
The individual schools will still be allowed to enter senior teams in the lower grade (B, C & D) championships.
It means last year’s Connacht ‘A’ Colleges champions, Summerhill College of Sligo, and newly-promoted St Attracta’s Community School, Tubbercurry, will face the new Leitrim combined schools team when the championship begins towards the end of the year.
