Major concern over level of roads policing in Sligo/Leitrim area



There’s major concern over the level of roads policing in the wider Sligo/Leitrim area.

 

The number of Gardai assigned to the roads policing unit in Sligo in particular is said to have decreased dramatically over the last number of years and it’s understood that there has been little progress in attempts to address the issue.

 

It has led to fears locally that it will ultimately lead to fewer speed and drink/driving detections and a general lack of monitoring of the county’s roads.

 

At a time when the high number of recent road deaths are a key focus by the Government and the RSA, Sinn Fein’s Transport Spokesperson Martin Kenny says the situation within An Garda Siochana locally is clearly at crisis point:
