Rising costs of construction adding to housing crisis

A Leitrim councillor says the hidden costs associated with building is threating to seriously endanger any progress in relation to addressing the housing crisis in the north west.

A recent report from the Society of Chartered Surveyors shows rebuilding costs have jumped by 12 per cent over the past year.

Drumkeerin councillor Padraig Fallon says increasing interest rates is also having a negative impact on the amount of construction currently being carried out.

The Sinn Fein Councillor says such issues are impacting developers, construction companies and families that are looking to build or renovate.
