Prison escapee who stole car in north Leitrim recaptured



A convicted criminal that escaped from Loughan House open prison and stole a car in north Leitrim has been recaptured following a high speed chase across Co Louth and Co Meath.

It’s understood that the man has more than 100 criminal convictions.

It’s being reported that he rammed a Garda car and resisted arrest. Gardai subsequently recovered some suspected crack cocaine in the car he abandoned.

While he was on the run, the escaped prisoner is suspected of stealing a car in the Manorhamilton area.

The Irish Independent are reporting that he is suspected of being involved in four armed robberies.

The man is now expected to face a string of charges and will be placed in a closed prison.

The escaped criminal is believed to be originally from Dublin and is currently serving a six-year jail term.
