Motorist caught speeding in north west



Gardai have confirmed that while conducting a speed checkpoint in the Sligo-Leitrim area , a car was detected exceeding the speed limit.

The driver was travelling in at 166km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.

A Fixed Charge Notice was issued to the driver.

Gardaí have previously warned that they will be out in force in Sligo and elsewhere this Bank Holiday weekend.

Checkpoints are planned for a number of locations across the region over the next few days, with Gardaí set to clampdown on various offences.

Gardaí are reminding all road users to slow down and help save lives.
