Three teenage boys in Garda custody over serious assault in Sligo

Three teenage boys are in Garda custody this morning, after being arrested in connection with a serious assault in Sligo.

The victim, another teenage boy, remains in a serious condition at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Gardai confirmed last night that a further two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the serious assault, which happened at the Apple Green Service Station on Mail Coach Road on Tuesday night shortly after 7pm.

The boys are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and are being held at a Garda station in Sligo.

Another teenage boy, also arrested yesterday, remains in Garda custody.

The teenager who was assaulted was initially taken to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries, but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he is continuing to receive treatment.

The scene was sealed off for a time for a technical examination and an investigation at Sligo Garda station is ongoing.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to any witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with video footage of the incident are being asked to make it available to Gardaí, as are any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the Mailcoach road between 6:45pm and 7:15pm.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sligo Garda station.
