Finn Harps appoint Darren Murphy as manager

Finn Harps have appointed Darren Murphy as the club’s new manager for next season.

Murphy, who had been Dave Rogers assistant at Finn Park prior to his departure, has signed a two-year deal.

Rogers left the club in September after a return of just one point from six games, and Murphy was then tasked with leading the side out for the last five games as caretaker boss, where he earned two wins and a draw.

Harps finished second from bottom in the First Division this season.

A number of coaches were linked with the post but Harps decided to trust Murphy to head up a promotion push for next season.

“After taking the team for the final six weeks of the season, it was something that I really, really enjoyed. So, when the opportunity arose to take the role in a full-time capacity it was something that I jumped at,” Murphy said.

Murphy had a long playing career in the Irish League – most notably with Linfield) – and has held a number of coaching positions in the North.
