North West counties to benefit from projects supporting Traveller women

Counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal look set to benefit from projects which help Traveller women who are facing homelessness.

In an announcement this morning, Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy Hildegarde Naughton has allocated funding for projects.

The programme is a collaboration between the Department of Health, the HSE and the Genio Trust.

Donegal, Sligo/Leitrim along with West Cavan and Monaghan will employ a full-time Homeless Development Worker to create a model of delivering a culturally appropriate service.

The project for these counties will collaborate with a variety of services to ensure Traveller women are included in the planning of and access to health services for Traveller women affected by homelessness.
