No Coleman in Ireland squad for Dutch Euro qualifier

Despite his recent return to full training with Everton, Seamie Coleman hasn’t been included in the Republic of Ireland soccer squad for their final Euro 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands.

Coleman hasn’t played for his country since getting injured towards the end of last season’s Premier League with Everton.

Ireland manager Stephen Kenny named his squad on Thursday for the game away to the Dutch on Saturday week (November 18th) and a friendly international against New Zealand four days later.

Coleman played two U-21 games for Everton in the last week, his first taste of action since suffering a knee injury in May but he’s not due to join the squad for the next window, though it’s understood he is on standby and could be added to the squad, if needed, if he features for Everton’s first team on Saturday.

There are recalls to this Ireland squad for Troy Parrott and Liverpool keepe Caoimhin Kelleher.

James McClean will return to the squad for the New Zealand friendly with the match set to be his 103rd and final cap for the Republic of Ireland as the Derry man retires from international football at the end of the 2023 campaign.
