The UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon says it’s trying to verify reports that a person arrested in connection to the death of Donegal man Private Sean Rooney has been released.
It was reported last night that the only suspect arrested and charged in relation to the attack on a convoy of Irish soldiers in December 2022 has been released.
Four other men were charged in connection with the 23 year old soldier’s death by the military court – however, they’ve never been detained.
UNIFIL has again called for all perpetrators to be held accountable, and for justice for Private Rooney and his family.
