It’s been confirmed that a man suspected of fatally shooting Donegal man and Irish United Nations peacekeeper Private Seán Rooney in south Lebanon has been released.
According to military court official, the suspect had spent almost a year in detention but was released on bail pending a trial.
23 year old Private Rooney, from Newtowncunningham in Donegal was killed in December last year after a convoy of Irish soldiers came under fire in south Lebanon.
The military official added that while the accused was part of the group that surrounded the UN patrol, there is no conclusive evidence proving he was the one who injured the Irish peacekeeper, causing his death.
