The Government has approved over €200,000 to Leitrim County Council, under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works & Coastal Protection Scheme.
The funding is being provided to carry out flood prevention works on the Southwest side of the road at Leitrim Village.
It will include the construction of a containment structure with a headwall and a removal weir.
In the past, houses at ‘Cluain Óir’ housing estate were affected by flooding and it’s anticipated that this measure will ensure any future threat is dealt with.
In a statement Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan said: “I am delighted that Leitrim Co Council’s work to get this funding has paid off, I want to acknowledge the work of Senior Engineer, Shay O’Connor and his team at Leitrim Co Council for placing this good and sensible application before the OPW and I would like to acknowledge and thank my colleague, Minister O’Donovan for his positive response to my representations” concluded Deputy Feighan.
