Ballymote Tubbercurry councillors told that adequate rail & road investment will boost local economy



The lack of a direct train link from Ireland West Airport Knock to other parts of the country is said to be hampering the facility’s efforts in attracting new airlines.

 

Figures show that over 70% of passengers who use the airport get to and from there by their own means.

 

It’s thought that a train readily available for people at the doorstep of Knock would be a major asset for all concerned.

 

This combined with the promised upgrade to the N17 have been described as ‘a game changer’ for not only the airport but the wider north west region.

 

It was one of the main topics discussed at yesterday’s Ballymote Tubbercurry MD at Ireland West Airport.

 

Cllr Michael Clarke says the Government need to prioritise both projects:

 

 

Meanwhile, Cathaoirleach of the Ballymote Tubbercurry MD Cllr Joe Queenan says it was an historic day to hold the meeting at the airport
