North West inshore fishermen will struggle to pay bills this winter, Dail hears



Inshore fishermen in the North West will struggle to put food on the table this winter if the Government doesn’t immediately sanction financial supports.

 

That’s according to Independent TD Thomas Pringle, who is warning that producers are currently left in an unprofitable position.

 

The ongoing war in Ukraine is said to have resulted in a dramatic crash in prices for the likes of crab and other shellfish.

 

Speaking in the Dail, Deputy Pringle urged Marine Minister Charlie McConalogue to take action.

 

While responding, Minister McConalogue says is he engaging with the inshore fishery sector on the issue and is assessing the situation:
