A decision on any potential development for the N17 in 2024 will be made by the end of the year.
Sligo County Council unanimously called for 2.5m euro to be allocated for the development of the road, as approximately 5.1 billion euro is being earmarked for national road projects until 2030.
The project was thrown into doubt earlier this year when Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, announced that no funding was to be made available for the N17.
Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh, says that the amount required is small, and is hopeful of getting clarity on the issue in the next number of weeks:
