A Sligo Councillor is warning that difficulties in securing insurance along with the eventual costs of polices will prevent some local community groups in running annual Christmas events in the weeks leading up to the festive period.
Sligo Drumcliff councillor, Thomas Healy has expressed the fear that many communities will not be able to carry on Christmas traditions as result of the small number of companies providing such public liability cover.
It’s thought that with a limited number of companies currently in the market for such purposes premiums that is out of reach for many smaller community groups with limited budgets for such projects.
The Sinn Fein Councillor has called on the government to set up a special fund for such events that could be controlled or disrupted by the respective local authorities.
