Dáil hears how the sight of ambulances backing up at LUH is a regular occurrence

The Dáil has heard how the sight of ambulances backed up at Letterkenny university Hospital while their crews, and patients wait for space inside the facility is becoming an all too familiar sight.

Donegal Deputies Pearse Doherty and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn raised the plight of the hospital with the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney who was taking Leaders questions at the time of the debate.

Deputy Mac Lochlainn explained how elderly patients were left waiting for long periods of time on hard chairs before they were even medially accessed.

The Donegal elected representative urged Minster Coveney to appeal to his cabinet colleague, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly to take action and address a situation that he described as ‘unacceptable’

Minister Convey agreed that the situation was far from ideal and committed to raising the issue with the Minister for Health.
