The Fianna Fail Parliamentary Party has confirmed some of it’s potential candidates to contest seats in the local elections in Leitrim.
In the Manorhamilton Municipal District, long- serving councillor Mary Bohan and the current Cathaoirleach of the local Authority, Justin Warnock look as if they will selected.
There were rumours at one stage of a third candidate from the Manorhamilton area being added, but with a crowded field already in the race, and with the two sitting councillors at opposite ends of the Municipal District the Bohan/Warnock combination looks as being the option that Party HQ will run with.
In the Ballinamore MD Cllr Paddy O Rourke who also contested the 2016 General Election will also be running again.
He was first elected to the council twenty years ago and will be joined on the ticket by Gary Prior who comes from a famous GAA family in the Count with his Dad Seamus a former All Ireland final referee.
The first time candidate will replace outgoing councillor, Caillian Ellis who steps down after 25 years of unbroken service in the local Authority.
The departure of the Caillian’s Ellis also brings to an end for now at least the Ellis Political dynasty in Leitrim.
In the Carrick-on-Shannon Councillors Sean mc Gowan and Paddy Farrell will be looking to retain the two seats they secured.
Leitrim village based Paddy Farrell was a first time candidate five years ago while Dromod based Sean McGowan is another long- serving member on the local Authority in Leitrim.
It’s still very possible that a third candidate, based perhaps in the Carrick-on-Shannon area may also be added to the ticket.
