Former Táinaiste urges Fianna Fáil to run strongest candidates in European Elections

The former Tánaiste and Donegal TD Mary Coughlan has urged Fianna Fáil not let concerns over meeting the gender balance requirements prevent the Party from running the best candidates in the upcoming European Elections.

The former Deputy Party Leader and current Donegal Dáilcheantair has made a strong argument why Senator Niall Blaney should be added to the party ticket to contest the elections in the Midlands North West Constituency.

The Donegal Senator narrowly lost out to Barry Cowen at a selection convention earlier this week.

Meanwhile another current senator, Lisa Chambers finished behind both Blaney after Monday’s vote.

There has been speculation however that the Mayo Senator could be added to satisfy the gender balance quota.

Speaking to Ocean FM news, Mary Couhglan outlined how the North West Region is missing out on adequate political representation in Europe and has firmly backed Niall Blaney’s efforts to secure a party nomination for the elections.
