Minister McConalogue announces 40% funding increase for UN World Food Programme

The Minister for Agriculture has confirmed a 40% increase in Ireland’s funding to the World Food Programme.

The announcement comes after Charlie McConalogue visited the Horn of Africa in South Sudan as part of the St Patrick’s Day expeditions.

The World Food Programme is run by the UN and is directed by Mountcharles native, Mary Ellen McGroarty.

The increases announced by Minister McConalogue will see €35m donated to the programme every year for the next three years, and Ireland will become its largest donor.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Minister McConalogue says the increased donations were a positive reflection of the Irish people.
