Delays expected as Rathcormac roadworks resume

Road users are being advised to expect delays as roadworks in Rathcormac are resuming this morning.

Tailbacks of up to an hour were reported at certain times on Thursday last.

The works had stopped over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend however they’re restarting this morning.

It’s expected that the majority of the works will be finished by this Friday.

Gardai are also reminding people to stay on the main road and not to use more minor routes in the area.

There were a number of minor crashes on the back roads on Thursday with Gardai issuing a warning that these routes are unsuitable to cope with large volumes of traffic.

The latest statement from Sligo County Council:

Sligo County Council are aware that significant delays are being experienced in all directions on approach to the works at the N15 Rathcormack both during the day and at night.
Traffic management at this location currently consists of three-way stop go during working hours and the contractor’s traffic management personnel are endeavouring to keep traffic moving to the greatest extents possible.
Traffic management measures at night consist of the use of 3 way traffic lights. Considering the nature of the works, the location and the extremely heavy traffic volumes on the N15 significant delays to traffic is to be expected.
Sligo County Council personnel are continuing to liaise with the Contractor in relation to this matter.
