Tremors from devastating Taiwan earthquake recorded in Donegal school

Tremors from the devastating earthquake in Taiwan were recorded in Donegal earlier this morning.

A seismograph at St Columba’s College in Stranorlar measured the 7.4 magnitude earthquake which struck the island during the morning rush hour.

At least seven people have been killed with more than 700 others injured.

Witnesses say the shaking could be felt as far away as Shanghai in China, and tsunami warnings were issued for southern Japan and the Philippines.

At least 77 people are trapped in tunnels and collapsed buildings.

Donegal Physics teacher, Brendan O’Donoghue, was behind St Columba’s College joining the international Seismology in Schools network.
