Sligo jockey Derek Fox looks set to once again to ride ‘Corach Rambler’ in this Saturday’s Aintree Grand National.
Fox, has won national hunt racing’s most famous race on two occasions- in 2017 aboard ‘One For Arthur’ and in 2023 alongside ‘Corach Rambler’.
‘Corach Rambler’ is trained by Lucinda Russell, who also trained ‘One For Arthur’ when Fox won the Grand National.
He is just the second Sligo jockey to win the famous steeplechase – following in the footsteps of Leo McMorrow and ‘Russian Hero’ in 1949.
It was previously feared the Emmet Place native would not be able to take to the field following a proposed whipping ban.
Fox was referred to the BHA’s Whip Review Committee which put him at risk of collecting a number of days suspension which covered the day of the Grand National.
The panel met to consider his case, however postponed a decision until they had spoken to Fox. With the next meeting not a few days prior to the Grand National, any penalty would start in the week after the Aintree fixture.
This has freed the Sligoman to take his place in the 34-strong Grand National field.
