Sligo Rovers lose 1-0 to Waterford

Sligo Rovers winless streak in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Premier Division extended to six matches on Friday night following a 1-0 home loss to Waterford.

Christie Pattisson’s early second-half goal for the visitors proved to be the matchwinner.

Kick-off had been delayed by 15 minutes after the referee expressed unhappiness with a patch of artifical grass in one of the goalmouths following a pre-match pitch inspection.

Groundstaff worked to make alterations – and the game eventually started at 8pm.

The home side created enough chances to win this game, particularly in the first half – but their failure to convert any them proved costly.

Friday night’s result sees Rovers drop into the bottom three in the Premier Division table after 13 matches.

Manager John Russell spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Dónal Ryan about the result – and the delay to kick-off earlier in the evening.
