County Louth 18-year-old leaving Cert student Gavin Tiernan leads the way after Thursday’s opening round of the Flogas Irish Amateur Open at Co Sligo Golf Club.
Tiernan, who helped Ireland win the boys Home Internationals in 2023, carded an impressive opening round of six-under-par 65 to lead by one in beautiful weather conditions at Co. Sligo.
Galway’s Liam Nolan, a West of Ireland runner-up here in 2022 – and Matthew McLean (Malone) are in hot pursuit on five-under.
Co Sligo duo TJ Ford and Ruairi O’Connor are among a group of golfers tied for fifth on three-under-par after fine rounds of 68.
