Northern Lights shine in north west

The Northern Lights gave a celestial display across the north west on Friday night.

The distinctive green and purple hues lit up the night sky amid a clear night.

Aurora Borealis usually only occurs in polar regions such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, but has been evident in Ireland on a number of occasions this year.

The light show is the result of a huge ejection from the coronal mass of the sun, leading to the creation of the phenomenon known as the Northern Lights.
