Lyme disease becoming more prevalent in North West

There’s said to be an increase in people in the North West contracting lyme disease.

It is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks and if left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system.

A number of local representatives are bringing motions forward on the matter to today’s sitting of Sligo County Council.

Fianna Fail Cllr Donal Gilroy says there needs to be a greater awareness locally.
