Gardaí in Leitrim have issued a warning after a number of vehicles were found to have defective tyres.
The Roads Safety Authority examined a number of vehicles during checkpoints in recent days and several drivers were issued with tickets for excessively worn tyres.
During the checks, a van was stopped and found to have two flat tyres with wire exposed. The driver subsequently tested positive for cannabis and was arrested.
Gardaí are advising motorists to ensure their vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before setting off on a journey and conduct all relevant checks.
