SIPO facing high costs following MacSharry High Court case

The Standards in Public Office Commission (Sipo) is facing a six-figure bill after it was brought to the High Court by Sligo-Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry.

The Irish Independent is reporting Deputy MacSharry, took the case after Sipo released details of his dealings with the watchdog to a journalist under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Independent TD alleged the release of his correspondence with Sipo was an unlawful disclosure of his personal and private information.

The correspondence was linked to comments Mr MacSharry made about civil servants sitting at home watching boxsets during the Covid pandemic.

It’s believed that Sipo spent over €100,000 on the case while they will also foot the bill for Mr. MacSharry’s legal costs.
