Sligo Cllr airs concerns over Strandhill coastal erosion plan

Concerns have been raised over Sligo Borough Council’s next moves in relation to fighting coastal erosion in Strandhill.

An application will be filed to the OPW after a report into the issue highlighted rock-armour as an optimal way to combat the erosion.

However, retiring local Cllr Sinead Maguire, who is on the coastal erosion sub-group of the Strandhill community development committee, and was part of the group who looked for funding on the study, is still unsure over the fact the report is limited to engineering solutions.

Cllr Maguire says there has been no assessment over how this will affect the coastline further down the line.
