Over 80 North West vacant properties get funding approval

A total of 84 vacant or derelict properties across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have been granted approval under the latest round of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.

Donegal had the highest number of approvals.

The third round of the fund was announced in January last year and was specifically targeted at addressing long term vacancy and dereliction across cities and towns and at the provision of residential accommodation.

Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien has given an update today as it relates to the fund which shows that 33 vacant and derelict properties in Sligo have been granted approval and 46 in Donegal.

However in Leitrim, just five such properties have received approval.

A fund is now available to Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal County Councils to cover the purchase price of properties – both residential and commercial – and any minor works required to make the property more suitable for sale.

Acquired properties are then offered for private sale to those who in return will commit to bringing the property back into residential use.
