Fine Gael councillors Fox and Connolly lose seats

Two Fine Gael councillors, Tom Fox and Martin Connolly have both been eliminated from their respective electoral area counts.

Fox, who was among the field in Sligo-Drumcliffe could not retain his seat despite picking up 1324 botes in total.

Curry native Connolly meanwhile, was among a packed field in Ballymote-Tubbercurry as five candidates battled it out for the five remaining seats.

His 1477 votes were not enough as they were swept up by fellow Fine Gael candidates Dara Mulvey and Gerard Mullaney, who both retain their seats and Liam Brennan and Barry Gallagher, both of Fianna Fáil, who take their seats in the local authority for the very first time.
