Contraband seized at Dublin Port destined for Donegal



It’s emerged that a substantial haul of illegal tobacco and cigarettes seized by Revenue at Dublin Port was destined for Donegal.

 

Revenue has seized contraband worth over €826,000 during the course of numerous operations at the port over the last week.

 

The illegal contraband was discovered in a consignment of jigsaw puzzles which had originated from Poland and were intended for an address in Donegal.

 

Officers seized 210kg of tobacco branded ‘Virginia’ with an estimated value of €173,100, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €130,000.

 

Some 40,000 cigarettes, branded ‘John Player’, were also seized. These had an estimated value of €33,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €26,300.

 

Also discovered was 31kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €620,000.

 

The illegal tobacco and cigarettes were seized with the assistance of detector dog Waffle.

 

Investigations are ongoing.
