Mark English wins ninth 800m title



Donegal middle-distance runner Mark English won another men’s 800 metres title at the National Senior Track & Field Championships in Santry on Sunday afternoon.

English, who recently secured qualification for this third Olympics, clocked 1:49.50 to win his ninth national outdoor 800m title.

Elsewhere, North Sligo AC’s Chris O’Donnell relinquished his men’s 400m title.

He was pipped on the line by Jack Raftery in an exciting finish.

O’Donnell led the race for 350 minutes but stumbled badly in the closing stages of the race and fell across the line.

Sligo AC’sLauren Cadden had a similar finish in taking bronze in the women’s 400 metres final – a race which was won by her European women’s 4x400m relay team-mate Sophie Becker.
