Thousands expected in Rossnowlagh for annual Orange Order parade

Motorists are being warned to expect delays in and around Rossnowlagh this weekend ahead of the annual Orange Order Parade.

Thousands of people are expected to descend on Rossnowlagh on Saturday for the event.

The march traditionally takes place on the last Saturday before the main celebrations held on July 12th and is the only Orange parade in the Republic of Ireland.

The seaside village of Rossnowlagh has also hosted the event since 1978.

Up to sixty lodges from Donegal as well as counties Cavan, Leitrim and Monaghan are expected to be joined by lodges from across Northern Ireland.

Some visitors from overseas are also set to take part and the members will also be accompanied by over 40 bands.

The event is expected to start at 12.30pm near St John’s Parish Church.

The lodges will then hold their annual demonstration before a religious service takes place at 3pm.

Extra Gardaí are set to be drafted into the area over the course of the weekend to cater for increased traffic and footfall.
