Over €600,000 awarded to redevelopments on Donegal islands

Over €600,000 has been made available for redevelopment projects on islands off the Donegal coast.

The funding has been announced by the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Our Living Islands scheme.

Arranmore Island and Tory Island are the two biggest beneficiaries of the amount that has been allocated to Donegal.

A number of redevelopment projects are set to take place on Arranmore, with roadworks the priority. Over half of Donegal’s allocation has been awarded to Arranmore, with €306,500 being spent on projects there.

€140,000 will be going to Tory Island, with all projects there also focusing on the redevelopments of the island’s roads.

Other islands off the Donegal coast to benefit from today’s announcement include Uaigh and Inis Meáin, while money will also go towards upgrading the piers in Burtonport and Magheroarty.

In total, €2.25 million will be allocated to islands all around the country.
