John Russell hopeful of securing new additions this transfer window

Sligo Rovers boss John Russell says he is hopeful of adding a few new faces to his squad before the transfer market closes.

Forwards Max Mata and Rein Smit left the club early into the season, while winger Fabrice Hartmann has returned to his parent club RB Leipzig following the conclusion of his loan agreement.

Stephen Mallon has been the only new addition so far, and impressed on his debut against Derry City last time out. Defender Ollie Denham has also recently signed an 18-month deal, keeping him in the Showgrounds until the end of the 2025 season.

Rovers have also secured the services of goalkeeper Ed McGinty, who extended his loan deal from Championship side Oxford United until the end of the current season.

The Bit O’Red face Bohemians in Dalymount Park on Friday evening. Bohs have been busy in the transfer market, having signed four new players already, with the view to bringing in one more before Friday’s fixture.

Speaking this afternoon, Rovers manager John Russell says there are still spaces in his squad that need to be filled.

Bohemians vs Sligo Rovers will be live here online only on Ocean FM.ie. Kick off on Friday is at 7.45pm.
