Four more North West athletes heading to the Olympics

Donegal’s Mark English and Kelly McGrory, and Sligo’ Chris O’Donnell and Lauren Cadden, have all been included to represent Ireland on the athletics team at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Team Ireland are sending a 23-strong athletics team to the Games, bringing the total number on Team Ireland to 122, the biggest team the country has ever sent to an Olympics.

Mark English is the only one of the four competing in an individual event. The Tír Chonaill AC man will contest the 800m.

McGrory, Cadden and O’Donnell have all been included in the mixed 4x400m relay team, with McGrory and Cadden also selected for the women’s 4x400m relay.

Chris O’Donnell and Lauren Cadden’s inclusion also brings the number of Sligo athletes heading to this year’s Olympics to 4, after swimmer, Mona McSharry and boxer, Dean Clancy, secured their places on Team Ireland last year.
