Leitrim qualify for All-Ireland Intermediate Championship final

Leitrim’s women’s gaelic footballers have qualified for the final of the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship following a one-point victory over Wexford.

It is the first time the county has reached the decider since 2007.

Jonny Garrity’s side reached the semi-finals following an unbeaten group stage campaign which preceded an All-Ireland quarter final victory over Roscommon.

Leitrim led at half-time by 1-04 to three points with Glencar-Manor’s Muireann Devaney finding the back of the net.

Two further second half goals from Ailbhe Clancy and a second from Devaney pushed Leitrim towards victory at Parnell Park.

Wexford, to their credit never gave up and cut Leitrim’s lead to the bare minimum in the dying minutes of the game.

Aoife Cullen had a chance to bring the game to extra-time with the last kick of the game, however, she failed to find the target from an acute angle.

Leitrim now progress to the All-Ireland final in three weeks’ time where they will face Tyrone at Croke Park.

Here’s how Ocean FM Sport’s John Lynch and Maeve Quinn described the second half action:
