Record-breaking cycle for Ballyshannon’s Karol McNern

A new world record for an unsupported cycle from Malin Head to Mizen Head- and back again has been broken by a Ballyshannon man.

Karol McNern’s monumental non-stop challenge saw him set out at 7am on Friday morning before returning returning at 11.45am on Sunday morning in a time of 53:29:54.

It was Karol’s third attempt at the challenge following two previous mechanical faults.

Karol’s efforts were in support of Bundoran RNLI which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year while the charity as a whole, is marking its 200th anniversary.

Speaking to Ocean FM Sport, Karol said it was a challenge in itself returning to the saddle after two previous failed attempts.
