Sligo’s Martin Gordon on Ireland paralympic team

Sligo cyclist Martin Gordon’s selection on the Ireland team for a second consecutive Paralympics was confirmed on Thursday when he was named as one of the 10-strong paracycling contingent for Paris next month.

Gordon, who’s 39 and works as a barrister in Dublin, raced for Ireland at the Tokyo Games in 2021, finishing fifth alongside his tandem racing partner Eamonn Byrne in the 1000m indoor time-trial.

For Paris, Eoin Mullen, a native of Inis Mór in Galway, will be Gordon’s time-trial pilot.

Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal, who won team pursuit gold and silver medals in Tokyo, are also selected.

Dunlevy’s father hails from Mountcharles in Donegal – and there is another Donegal connection on the team, with Drumkeen’s Mitchell McLaughlin selected as one of the four pilots on the paracycling team.

The Paralympic Games in Paris will open on August 29th – and will run until August 8th.
