Almost 140 people registered homeless in North West last month



Almost 140 people were registered as homeless in the North West in June.

 

The figure represents just one per cent of the national total, which has hit a new record.

 

Of the three North West counties, Sligo had the highest number of people recorded as homeless last month at 73.

 

This is followed by Donegal at 53 while there were 11 people recorded as homeless in Leitrim.

 

In this region, there were 24 families accessing emergency accommodation during the week of 24th – 30th, which includes 56 children.

 

Other key highlights in the latest report include that the age category which had the highest number of homeless people in this region was the 25-44 bracket.

 

The majority of people registered as homeless in the North West are Irish.

 

Nationally, there were 14,303 people registered as homeless in June which is at an all-time high.
