Sligo Bay RNLI tasked to help swimmers in difficulty

The Sligo Bay RNLI was tasked to help swimmers in difficulty last night.

There were two seperate call outs to the same area.

The lifeboat was requested to launch by the Coastguard to rescue a swimmer off Deadman’s Point in Rosses Point at 8.40pm yesterday evening.

The swimmer made their own way ashore before the Lifeboat reached them.

Upon returning to the station, the lifeboat was again requested to launch by the Coast Guard to a group of swimmers thought be in difficulty in the same spot.

All the swimmers made their own way back safely.

In a statement Dermot Gillen, Lifeboat Operations Manager, said  that there is always a current around Deadmans Point and with the spring tides at the moment, the current is particularly strong and urged all swimmers to read the safety signs.
